Inference Economics is a boutique economic advisory firm specializing in natural resource economics, conservation, Indigenous economics, and economic development. Our work includes agreement development and implementation, litigation support, policy design and advocacy, and other specialist services.
We are hiring a Funding Agreements and Reporting Specialist to administer external funding agreements and associated reporting responsibilities for our clients. Reporting to the Lead Economist, you will work directly with clients to maintain agreement records, monitor budgets and expenditures, coordinate reporting, and build reliable administrative systems. Most of your time will support a principal client, with the remaining time devoted to internal systems and other firm projects.
What you will do
• Build and maintain a register of active funding agreements, including approved amounts, eligiblea ctivities, payment schedules, reporting obligations, and expiry dates
• Develop annual and multiyear budgets and monitor actual and committed spending against fundingl imits and agreement deadlines
• Reconcile funding trackers with financial system information, investigate discrepancies, and flag unspent balances, shortfalls, potentially ineligible expenditures, and risks of lapsed funding
• Draft financial and narrative reports required by funders, coordinate internal review, and track submissions, revisions, and funder responses
• Prepare monthly and quarterly funding management reports for program and executive leadership,covering balances, routine forecasts, deadlines, and compliance risks
• Coordinate with program and Finance personnel on work plans, deliverables, and performance measures, and obtain the information and approvals required for reporting
• Develop templates,trackers, filing systems, and procedures that make funding administration repeatable, and train others to use them
What we are looking for
• A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, economics, or a related field
• At least two years of experience administering funding, grant, or contribution agreements, or comparable budget and reporting work
• Strong spreadsheet skills and comfort reconciling financial data across systems
• Clear written communication and the ability to prepare accurate financial and narrative reports
• The ability to manage concurrent deadlines, work independently in a remote environment, and identify matters requiring a decision
• Comfort working directly with clients in a small firm environment
• Authorization to work in Canada
Nice to have
• Experience with federal contribution agreements or other government funding programs
• Familiarity with Sage Intacct or a comparable accounting system
• Experience working with Inuit or First Nations organizations
• Inuktitut language skills
Employment details
• This is a full time, one year contract with the possibility of extension
• The position is remote within Canada and requires some overlap with Eastern time for client meetings
• Occasional travel to Iqaluit is required; approved travel expenses are covered, and vacation pay is included
